The island of Kauai is a beautiful place to explore with your family. It has many things to see and do, such as the Na Pali Coast, Waimea Canyon State Park, and Wailua Falls. There are also museums and parks for children to enjoy. In this blog post, we will list some fun activities you can do with your family on Kauai!
Visit the Na Pali Coast
The Na Pali Coast is just one of the many gems on Kauai. It is one of the most beautiful coastlines in all of Hawaii, and it’s best accessed by boat! You can even book a Na Pali Coast boat tour with guides that can help show you the ins and outs to get the most out of your experience.
This family activity is safe and affordable while also being very educational about the history of Kauai and island life! If you take a trip to the Na Pali coast make sure to get plenty of pictures before heading back.
Snorkeling Adventures
Snorkeling when you visit Kauai is a must! The water is crystal clear and you can spot a variety of fish, coral reefs, sea turtles, even dolphins if they are around.
The family activity for adults and children alike as there aren’t many strong currents or sharks that could be dangerous to those who aren’t well-trained swimmers. You should always go out with someone who knows the area though to ensure your safety while having fun at this beautiful place!
Taking a Kauai snorkeling tour when you visit Kauai is both educational and immersive; not only will you get insight into some historical facts about Hawaii but also see the marine life that exists right by our shorelines!
Whale Watching
Kauai is blessed to be one of the best places to watch whales. They come here each year on their migration paths for several months, making for incredible whale watching adventures!
If you’re visiting between December and March, head over to one of the many lighthouses on Kauai’s North Shore, and you might just see a whale or two, or join in on a whale watching tour to see these beautiful and massive creatures up close.
This family activity is educational about marine life and not too expensive either! If you’re interested in this sort of stuff then going on a tour may even help spark an interest in marine biology or oceanography down the road!
There is nothing more magical than seeing these gentle giants swim and play in the water; it’s truly an amazing experience that every member of your family can enjoy! This activity is fun for all ages as well. There also isn’t swimming involved either which makes this one great for those who don’t know how or simply want something low-key.
Play At The Beaches
Kauai offers a variety of beaches for your family to enjoy. They range from very mellow and shallow to more intense with strong currents. Some beaches are better for children while others are great for adults who can swim well!
There is something fun about exploring new places, so it’s a good idea to try out all of the family activities on Kauai at least once! Each beach offers something unique in its way, so you will have plenty of choices depending on what mood your family is feeling that day.
Some beaches that we recommend for the whole family include:
- Poipu Beach (South Side)
- Baby Beach (South Side)
- Anini Beach (North Shore)
- Hanalei Bay (North Shore)
- Lydgate Beach (East Side)
- Fuji Beach (East Side)
- Salt Pond Beach (West Side)
Hiking Trails
Known as the Garden Island for its luscious rainforests, Kauai is a great destination for family hikes. There are many trails and paths that you can take to get a taste of the lush greenery, and some even lead up to waterfalls!
Hanalei Plantation Trail – Great for all ages. This trail is fairly flat but very long so plan accordingly. There are also plenty of spots on this hike where you will feel secluded from civilization which makes it extra special for families who just want their alone time amongst nature’s splendor.
Kilohana Lookout – Another family favorite here in Kauai! It has great views of Lihue, Kalaheo, Hanapepe, Makaha Ridge, Kalalau Valley & Na Pali Coastline . It’s not too difficult either compared to other hikes here on Kauai, so those who aren’t as experienced can easily enjoy this activity.
Kalalau Trail – This trail is only for the more seasoned hikers with a permit from The State of Hawaii Division of Forestry and Wildlife. It’s best to go in groups because it is further into the forest where crime rates are high. You will want proper gear like hiking shoes or boots that provide enough support, water (at least two liters per person), sunscreen & bug spray, a first aid kit, etc…
All of these things may seem intimidating but you don’t have to do everything at once! These activities are meant to help your family bond through learning new skills together while exploring parts of our island home like never before which makes
Ziplining
Ziplining in Kauai is just another bonus to make your stay unforgettable! Kauai has several different ziplining opportunities for visitors and you can choose from a variety of different styles of zipline enjoyment for the family.
There are several different tours that you can choose from. You can go through the lush green forest or along the coastline, depending on what your family would like to see! Many of these zipline experiences do require at least some hiking so be prepared for a good workout as well if it’s your first time trying this activity out!
The best part about experiencing all of Kauai’s natural beauty is knowing that there is always something new and exciting to discover here every day. There will never be another day where everything feels stale because we’re constantly uncovering places just waiting to be found throughout our wonderful island home which makes us thankful each & every day!
Helicopter Tours
A helicopter tour on Kauai is another great family activity that you can do together! These tours offer an experience like no other, and they also allow for a different look at the island.
You will be able to see parts of the island from above that would take much longer to explore by foot or car which makes it worth the time. It’s also pretty cool to see the island from a new perspective!
Many helicopters offer tours on Kauai, but something to consider with helicopter tours is they are likely to have a slightly stricter age requirement than some of the other activities listed above.
